FAQ & Year at a Glance

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Communication

Text me, Sarah, at 780-871-1494 with any/all questions. Send me your question, and I will respond once I am done teaching for the day! You can also email me at famedancestudios@gmail.com

All newsletters are posted on our Whatsapp parent chats. Please text me, or ask your teacher or host, to obtain an invitation to join the list(s) relevant for you and your dancer(s). All important bulletins are posted there.

Payment Options

In-full or monthly payments can be made via:

The first 3 weeks of classes

The first 3 weeks of lessons are used for meeting our new dancers, making new friends, trying many classes, and figuring out the best fit for all of our dancers.

3 week trial period: First, we ask everyone to pay and register for at least one class for the full year or fall term. Second, during the first 3 weeks, we invite you to take as many classes as Sarah or your teacher recommends for you to try. This will help us figure out the perfect set of classes for each dancer for the season. Finally, if for any reason we can't find a class to suit the needs of the dancer, we give you a full refund except for the 3 classes that were taken, as well as the $30 registration fee. This helps with finding the perfect fit for each dancer, and also gives peace of mind to the parent.

As the first 3 weeks are a trial period, please do not buy any specific dancewear until we know exactly which classes your dancer will be taking. After that, please consult our Rules & Class Attire page to find out what to buy.

Calendars

We post a dance calendar on your Whatsapp parent chat within the first 3 weeks of dance. This will contain key dates for the full year. However, dates can change depending on theatres, partner organizations, or poor weather.

Make-up & Hair Info

Make-up is not mandatory for ages 3-5 (Tiny Tots) or 5-8 classes!

For picture day &, shows, and photo shoots, please consult our Hair & Make-up Guide.

Home Practice

Home practice is MANDATORY for all performance and company students. If a student in any Performance or Company level class does not come to class prepared and knowing the material from the last class, they can be excluded from performing in the next event. All decisions are up to the teacher of each class. Warnings will be given to the parent, if a teacher sees that a dancer is falling behind the rest of the class.

Parents, you can help make home practice fun. Make a sticker chart for your dancer, and put a sticker on the chart each day that they do their 5 minutes a day per dance that they are in. We recommend 3-5 minutes a day/4 days a week for each dance that they are in. It does not take long to get dance homework completed, but it makes a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!

Adv / Pro Keeners : Tech Zoom-ins!

Adv/Pro company - Zoom in for tech on days that you don’t dance, either from your home or from the studio. If at the studio, stay for open studio to get your home practice done on your own or with a friend! No cost! :-)

Solos / Duos / Trios

Extra out-of-class solos, duos, or trios are recommended to you by your teacher. You are very welcome to ask if you are ready to take on a solo or duo. The final decision will be up to your teacher. You are able to ask for music choices, themes and costume choices. However, once again, all final decisions are up to your teacher.

If you would like to do a duo or trio, let your teacher know, and we will find other dancers to perform with you! If you already have friends in mind, your teacher will let you know if the pairings are suitable.

You do not have to compete your solo, duo, trio - you can opt to perform only in our studio shows for great experience without the added cost!

The choreography is fully up to your teacher. The teacher that instructs the dancer’s tech classes and group classes will be the one to choreograph the solo, unless that teacher wishes to pass the choreo on to another teacher.

Your teacher will also recommend how many extras are suitable for each dancer. Home practice is MANDATORY for all extras. Extras take a lot of rehearsal to get to the stage in the condition that is desirable.

In-Studio Live guests - Policy

Fame has hosted several talented choreographers, musicians, artists and dancers over the past 25 years.

We go through an intensive vetting process before allowing guests to come in to our studio.

Rules for In-Studio Live guest appearances:

  1. All guests must provide Fame with a criminal record check including vulnerable sector check.
  2. We will notify Fame parents on their WhatsApp chat group one week prior to the guest attending and conducting their masterclass or presentation.
  3. Fame will ensure that 2 additional staff members will be present that day.
  4. We also always teach the dancers a code, that if they feel uncomfortable for any reason, they are to lift their hand and ask to be excused. This code has never been used, but we want to ensure that our dancers are comfortable in all situations.

We have had only positive experiences with guests and we want to make sure that this continues.

Once you have been made aware of the guest’s attendance, you do not need to attend the masterclass or presentation.
